What makes MathWiz Tutoring different & Better

Ensuring a good fit

At the outset, I set up a no-cost, no-obligation, 15-20-minute Zoom session with each student and their parent(s). This is to make sure that my skills and knowledge align with your needs and goals.

Pre-tutoring preparation

Before every tutoring session, I spend a significant amount of time preparing, so our 60 minutes together are as productive and impactful as possible. I do not charge extra for this prep time.

Test & quiz review

I will go over a student's tests and quizzes before we meet (again, at no cost) and then review any mistakes during our session and provide guidance for how errors can be minimized before the next assessment.

Personalized approaches

I understand that everyone learns in different ways, so I tailor my approach to best align with a student's learning style.

Making it real

After 10 years working in corporate finance (prior to teaching and tutoring), I am able to connect topics to real-world experiences and applications whenever possible. This can make the math we're working on more meaningful and useful, now and in the future.

Keys to success

Based on my many years of tutoring math, I've found that the chances of success are greater when the student:

  • Wants to be tutored and actively participates
  • Provides me with information of upcoming assignments and topics, ideally a day in advance, so I can be fully prepared
  • Understands that improvement in any math class may or may not be immediate, but should come with time as we build knowledge and try new approaches
  • Chooses a reasonable time to be tutored. The best time is often not immediately after school, an extracurricular activity, or another tutoring session. You need to have a clear mind and sufficient energy to be able to lock in for an hour and get the most out of our sessions. Having a small meal, a fun activity, or just some down time prior to meeting can make all the difference!

My skills. Your goals. Let's do this!
